The Ancient Music of Ireland Book.
A selection of music from the Ancient Harper's.  In the 1800's Edward Bunting went around Ireland transcribing these tunes that were almost lost to us.  For a hundred years the British forbid the playing and singing of Celtic music.  A Harper had to have special permission just to transport his instrument from one place to another.  These are arranged for Piano, but usable for most instruments.

Ryan's Mammoth Collection Book - 1050 tunes.

Originally published around 1850 and largely ignored until the 1940's when it was re-discovered, this collection is very useful for fiddlers in particular, as it explains bowing technique.  It also serves well as a dance instruction book as some of the sets are explained.  It contains, Hornpipes, Reels, Jigs, Highland Flings, Clogs and Contra Dances.  This book was compiled by Patrick Sky a noted Irish/Celtic musician and Uilleann piper historian.

The Complete Irish Fiddle Player Book - By Peter Cooper.

A must have for any student, beginner or advanced, who is interested in mastering the traditional Irish fiddle style.  The book comes with two CD's and is full of information on bowing techniques and dance tempos.  Recommended by me, Pat McCrossan - Director of The Academy of Irish and Celtic Studies.
